None Provided87 Louise Bogan was a poet, critic and translator who commanded both the wonder of readers and the respect of her peers throughout her long career. Born in Livermore Falls, Maine in 1897 she was married at 19 and widowed with a unsalted daughter before her 24th birthday. Bogans formal education retain notice with one year of college, yet she was later to be the telephone receiver of numerous grants, prizes, and honorary degrees. Among these awards were two Guggenheim Fellowships, a National give of Arts and Letters grant, the Bollingen Prize in Poetry (in 1955 for her unruffled Poems). The Library of Congress Chair in Poetry, and honorary degrees from occidental College for Women and Colby College. Bogan taught at the University of Washington, the University of Chicago, Brandeis University, and a number of other universities.
